15 abducted youths flee NSCN-K

ITANAGAR, Feb 8 – At least 15 of the 51 youths abducted last month
by NSCN-K rebels from Arunachal Pradesh and taken to training camps in Myanmar
have escaped from there and returned home, police today said, reports PTI. The
remaining 36 youths from Tirap and Changlang districts are being given arms
training by NSCN-K at their camps at Kamka, 40 km inside Myanmar, they said.
Of the 15, some of the boys were earlier set free by the captors after their
parents pursued the rebels and pleaded with them.
The kidnappings came to light soon after the visit of newly-appointed Governor
Gen (retd) J J Singh to Khonsa, headquarters of Tirap district, and Changlang
district last Sunday.
Both Tirap and Changlang are under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act in view
of insurgent activities from neighbouring Nagaland and Assam.

Mass procession against NSCN(K)

ITANAGAR, Feb 11: Various students’
organizations of Arunachal Pradesh organized a mass procession to protest the
recent kidnapping of 29 boys from Khonsa under Tirap district by NSCN(K)
The procession was launched at Longding yesterday by the All Tirap Students’
Union (ATSU), Wancho Students’ Union (WSU) and Wancho Cultural Society (WCS) to
voice their protest against the outfit’s activities.
About a thousand people, displaying placards and banners, took out the
procession at the Longding Township area.
Later, a public meeting was also organized where the agitators condemned the
NSCN(K) and demanded immediate release of all the abducted youths.
On January 10, ten youths were kidnapped from Chongkhow village near Wakka, out
of whom, nine were rescued by the villagers.

Protests over NSCN’s demand for recruits

Itanagar, Feb 14 (IANS): People in Arunachal Pradesh held
protests Thursday after a frontline Naga underground group, accused of abducting
between 39 to 51 boys in January, demanded more recruits from villages along the
border with Myanmar, officials said.

“NSCN has sent notices to 13 villages in Tirap district
asking for 227 more boys to join the outfit, leading to protests in the area,” a
police spokesman said. Officials said about 100 youths have already been
recruited by the faction from Changlang and Tirap districts in the last six
months or so.  Of the 51 that are said to have been forcibly taken away last
month for arms training in Myanmar, 23 are still in the group’s custody while
the rest have either been freed by the rebels or have escaped, the police said.

The NSCN has, however, denied the charges. “We do not
recruit cadres forcibly and these are all false allegations. We have cadres from
Arunachal Pradesh but all of them have joined us voluntarily,” Kughalo Mulatonu,
a senior NSCN leader, told IANS. There have been reports of protests in Tirap
district by local villagers Sunday following the fresh demand for cadres.
