The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union today claimed that 39 students were
abducted by the Khaplang faction of the NSCN from six villages in Tirap district
last month but the police and district administration have done nothing to
ensure their release. The apex students’ organisation of Arunachal Pradesh today
served an ultimatum to the government saying that it would launch a statewide
agitation if the children were not released within 10 days.Some of those

The Nagaland government today decided to allow students of private schools from
the four Naga-dominated hills districts of Manipur to appear for the HSLC
examinations under the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), ignoring
protests from Manipur. The government said the students, including those sitting
for the repeat exams, would be allowed to sit for the examination on fulfilment
of certain conditions. Last year, at least 4,000 students from Senapati,
Tamenglong, Ukhrul and Chandel districts of Manipur appeared for the HSLC
examination conducted by NBSE in Kohima and Dimapur under heavy security, in
view of the threat from the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Khaplang).

SHILLONG, Jan 2: The denial of the Hynniewtrep National Liberation
Council (HNLC) of its involvement in the abduction of a senior functionary of
the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on December 16 has made many to speculate. The
president of KSU’s Dawki circle, Fairshall Kongwang, was kidnapped by
unidentified gunmen on December 16. The subsequent arrest and revelations
indicated that the HNLC men were involved in the kidnapping of Kongwang from
Umkrem village near the Indo-Banglaesh border. Police sources have been

DIBRUGARH, Jan 5 – Poor telecommunication services by BSNL in the Dibrugarh and
Tinsukia districts in the past few months has prompted the NSUI to serve an
ultimatum on BSNL, demanding immediate improvement of services or face an
agitation. An NSUI delegation met the BSNL authorities here on Friday and sought
an explanation why services have reached frustrating levels. On behalf of the
BSNL, deputy general manager Chattopadhyay said work is on to improve the mobile

power projects ended peacefully on Wednesday but it continued to affect

from Bangladesh, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) general secretary PA Sangma

calls Asom bandh (SEN_31_1_2008)
GUWAHATI, Jan 30: The Justice (retired) RK
Manisana Singh Commission, investigating the November 24 Beltola incident, will
cross-examine Adivasi student leader Raphael Kuzur, currently in the custody of
Basistha police. The commission took the decision in this regard while
responding to an appeal made by All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA)
leader Jastin Lakra here today. Meanwhile, the AASAA has called a 24-hour Asom
bandh on February 1 demanding the unconditional release of Kuzur. The bandh,
which was originally called on January 31, has been deferred to February 1 in
view of the Me-Dam-Me-Phi. . …more…
